Men’s team of Levski lost in their first meeting in 2012. Visiting Rilski Sportist in Samokov the players of head coach Titi Papazov were stunned by the score 76-65 but they still retain second place in the standings of NBL in Bulgaria. "The Blues" now have 10 wins and 3 losses, while they rival from today’s game is with 9 wins and 5 defeats. Leader at the table continues to be Lukoil Academic, which is unbeaten so far in this championship. The loss from today makes the task for Levski to fight for first place at the end of the regular season very difficult, but still they do have another 15 rounds and anything is possible to happen.
The match in Samokov very even until the last minutes. Levski had their chances at the end of the game, but the fortune went on the hosts side. Just four minutes before the final whistle Stefan Georgiev scored for 65-61 in favor of Levski, but from that point on all other points were scored by the hosts of Rilski Sportist.
For Levski Aaron Harper was the best scorer with 15 points and Dimitar Angelov finished with 14. For the host the most effective was serbian guard Branko Mirkovic with 15 points while Hristo Zahariev and new signing Sasa Miajlovic.
The difference in this meeting pretty much was 15 extra boards in favor for the players of Rilski Sportist – 45 against 30. Also Levski had trouble at the free throw line making only 19 of all 32 shots from the charity stripe in this game.
Despite the defeat, players of Levski will have a good position for the draw for the upcoming Cup of the country. Along with Lukoil Academic, they will be seeded and can’t face each other until the final of this prestigious tournament in Bulgaria.
There is only one meeting until the end of the second phase of the championship in NBL. Next Saturday (January 14) Levski will host Cherno More in "Universiada" hall with tip off at 18.00 o’clock local time. A week later they will host Yambol at the same place before they will visit Lukoil Academic for third real derby in the country in the league this season. This match is on 28 January in the sports complex in Pravets. |
