Levski with hard victory in BotevgradDecember 17, 2011
Levski had very difficult game in Botevgrad but despite that was able to grab important victory by the score 77-71 over local Balkan in Round 10 of National Basketball League. The hosts were very inspired by their crowd but Levski dominated the last quarter to secure the success of this team.
Both teams had problems to score in the first quarter. Vassil Evtimov managed to get the first six points of the visiting team. Balkan got the first lead 10-8 after the middle of the first ten minutes. After few more lead changes Levski was at the top by a single point at the end of it - 19-18.
It happened that Evtimov once again to scored the first 3 points for Levski in the second quarter and pulled the team up by 4 points. Both teams then had few unsuccessful attacks before Balkan to score his first basket in nearly four minutes after the start of the quarter. The home team even made a series of 7-0. They had a chance to make double-digit but despite that they went at the half time break leading 40-32.
The third part started great for Balkan, since in the first attack Dimitar Filipov scored a triple. The hosts maintained the lead for few minutes but then the players of Levski woke up and cut it to only 2. Balkan took a time out after which they managed two 3-pointers in row and put back the difference in their favor to 8 once again. However right before the start of the last quarter Zlatin Georgiev scored to put his team back in the game – 56-53.
A series of 9-0 shortly after the beginning of the last quarter again brought Levski up 64-59. Dimitar Marincheshki stopped their series but one another 5 consecutive points raised the Levski lead up to 8 points. In that point of the game the winner was pretty much decided as they closed the match at 77-71 for eight win of the season in NBL.
Aaron Harper was the best scorer for Levski with with 17 points. Vassil Evtimov had a double-double performance with after 16 points and 17 rebounds while Marcus Hall finished with 14 points.
For most hosts american Martin finished with 17 points. Three other - Lubomir Lilov, Dimiter Philipov and Stanimir Marinov added 13 points apiece. |
