Levski trashed Lukoil Academic on their own court

January 27, 2012

Phenomenal game by the new guard of Levski Jarrett Howell and Vassil Evtimov broke the winning series of Lukoil Academic in Bulgaria to an end. Levski lost the previous 11 meetings with Lukoil Academic and won convincingly by 92-77 over their rival for the title in Bulgaria. Victory had important value because it keeps the chances of Levski to attack the first place in the final standings of the regular season, but also was with psychological effect over direct rival for the Cup of the country, starting in the middle of next month in Samokov. The loss was the first for Lukoil Academic in local championship this season, while the success for Levski was their win number 13 in this year's championship.

Howell was amazing as he played his first derby against their rival and only during the period when he wasn’t on the field Lukoil Academic had an advantage. The point guard finished with 18 points, 8 assists and 3 rebounds and had efficiency of 26 at the end of the game. Pretty much all the danger to the opponent's basket came from him, either by shooting at a crucial moment or with wonderful assists for his teammates. He protected the ball very well in offense while defensively had most steals for his team..

We should not underestimate the contribution of Vassil Evtimov, dominant force under the basket at both ends of the floor. He ended with  monster double-double of 19 points and 16 rebounds, adding also three assists for efficiency of 31 - most in the game.

Despite well guarded by Andre Owens, the star of the team of Levski Aaron Harper scored his  points and finished at the end with 19.

Levski now will travel to Tel Aviv to visit Hapoel in crucial game of Group B of Balkan League. Both teams are fighting for the first place in this group as only the winner will go directly to the Final Four. Of course, after the success achieved over the champion Lukoil Academic, will bring confidence to travel to Tel Aviv in pursuit of another important for this season.
